In the early years of this century, Graniterock paved roads and highways throughout the Monterey and San Francisco bay areas. Their reputation for completing jobs on time, within budget, and of the highest possible quality, is second to none. Today, this tradition continues with Graniterock Construction Division. Graniterock Construction provides reliable and efficient general contracting services to both public and private enterprise.
In September 1995, Graniterock Construction was awarded the $12.1 million contract to reconstruct the San Francisco International Airport’s primary take-off runway. For the first time in more than a decade, the runway would be closed down for around-the-clock construction. Graniterock Construction crews had to not only widen the runway for use by larger jet aircraft, but also resurface the entire length of the 1.75-mile long runway. Of course, all of this was required to be completed within a challenging time schedule. Because of a total team-effort, 107,399 tons of Graniterock asphaltic concrete were placed to SFO’s demanding specifications for compaction and design grade in just 22 days; well ahead of even the airport’s most aggressive schedule!
Because of the dedication and devotion of each and every member of the Graniterock Construction Division team, the company completed a project that both the San Francisco International Airport, and the Graniterock family, will be proud of for years to come.
