Seven artists united by a passion for their craft are hosting a reception June 20 to share their work.
The group, simply called 'abstract7,' has a show at Graniterock Cupertino Design Center called "layers in time." The artists will take part in a reception and meet and greet June 20 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Founded in 2011, abstract7 meets monthly to support one another, share artwork and consider venues for group exhibits. The group creates artworks in several media, including watercolors, acrylics, oils, printmaking, photography, assemblage and sculpture.
The artists are Belinda Lima of Cupertino, Rajiv Khilnani from Sunnyvale, James Ong of Saratoga, Karen Wong from Los Altos, Vera Tchikovani from San Francisco and Santa Clara residents Yao-pi Hsu and Donna Orme.
"We met each other through classes and workshops in our art career. We all shared a passion for contemporary art," says Lima. "It's a support group with the same interests, and it's good to show your work with like-minded people."
While the group is mostly concentrated in Santa Clara County and made up of longtime California residents, many of the artists have international beginnings. London, Pakistan, Taiwan, Germany, France, Russia and Italy are some of the places the artists called home at one point.
Lima noted that Graniterock typically has shows featuring just one or two artists, so a group showing is quite unusual. The exhibit is up through July 31.
The show's title is quite fitting given the location. The layers in time title relates to the millions of years of layering that needs to happen to create rocks like granite. Lima notes that most of the abstract7 artists use layering techniques to create their works.
The June 20 meet and greet is free to the public and all seven artists will be in attendance. Refreshments and appetizers will be served. All paintings at the exhibit are available for purchase.
Shows during the past year have been at the Harrington Gallery in Pleasanton, Thoreau Gallery in San Francisco and Adobe Art Gallery in Castro Valley.
The group will have another exhibit this summer at San Jose's Martin Luther King Jr. Library. Titled "Visual Journeys," the show will run July 2 through Aug. 28 on the library's second floor.
Graniterock Cupertino Design Center is located at 1505 S. De Anza Blvd. in Cupertino.
