Granite Rock Company Honored As Top Information Technology User
Watsonville Company Named to Information Executive Top 100 List
Framingham, MA—Granite Rock Company is among the top 100 information technology performers nationwide, according to CIO, the magazine for information executives. The list is published in the magazine’s August edition, its tenth annual CIO-100 issue.
Over 3,000 high-level IS executives from diverse industries were asked to identify the most successful and innovative information technology practitioners. Respondents each nominated five companies and ranked them on five criteria: Infrastructure Management, Internal Customer Support, Internal Operations, Information Technology and Business Goal Alignment, and Innovation & Learning. The most frequently nominated and highest-scoring companies emerge as honorary recipients of the 1997 CIO-100.
Granite Rock Company scored highly among information executives for its creative and effective use of information technology in supporting the achievement of business strategies and objectives.
“Computer technologies have made it possible to improve product quality—including rock, concrete and asphaltic concrete—well beyond what was believed to be possible only a few years ago and give the construction industry the first significant product quality improvement in many years. It is also proof that rather than replace people’s ingenuity and efforts, computers help the Graniterock Team to do a better job by maintaining extremely close and precise control over operations—with the advanced ideas and methods coming from people,” said Bruce W. Woolpert, President & CEO. “Our next step is to apply this innovative approach to revolutionizing traditional accounting and financial services functions over the next two years. Our goal is to provide information to our customers, helping them to more keenly manage their businesses,” added Woolpert.
According to CIO Editor in Chief Abbie Lundberg, “The organizations honored by the 1997 CIO-100 demonstrate what’s achievable when companies use information technology to integrate business goals and corporate vision.”
Other California-based companies also receiving CIO-100 honors include Chevron, Cisco Systems, Computer Sciences Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Intel Corporation, and Levi Strauss & Co.
Granite Rock Company has corporate headquarters in Watsonville, California, with branch operations in Aromas, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Felton, Salinas, Hollister, San Jose, Redwood City, So. San Francisco, and Watsonville. Pavex Construction Company, a division of Granite Rock Company, is a rapidly-growing general engineering contractor with offices in Redwood City. Granite Rock Company is the recipient of the nation’s highest award for business management, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Graniterock has also received the Governor’s Golden State Quality Award, and received recognition as one of “The 100 Best Places to Work.”
CIO Communications, Inc., was founded in 1987 to help CIOs, IT executives and other senior level managers succeed in business through the use of information technology.
