Progressive Local Company Teams with Pajaro Valley Chamber to Unveil Fun New Children's Book

As a part of this year's birthday celebration, Graniterock will host the Pajaro Valley Chamber Mixeron February 13,2013, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at its Corporate Offices, 350 Technology Drive in Watsonville. A highlight of the celebration is the preview of a new children’s picture book, Engine Number Ten, written by Rose Ann Woolpert and illustrated by Jaguar Design Studio of Aptos. Based on the true story of steam engines used during the last century at the A.R. Wilson Quarry in Aromas, it is illustrated with beautiful archival photos and original drawings. The author will be available to sign books purchased at the event.
Graniterock has proudly chosen the United Way of Santa Cruz to receive raffle proceeds from their event.
Engine Number Ten is a tale of steam engines, rock mining and California history. The story line:
One hundred years ago, men and mules did the back-breaking labor of quarrying rock to build new roads and towns. Steam locomotives and shovels came to help, but wore out and were replaced. When the last quarry steam locomotive helped save a new diesel engine trapped in a rock slide, she was spared from the scrap heap. Years later, the boy who witnessed her willing spirit became the man who restored her and helped her find new and meaningful work at the Railroad Museum in Sacramento.
Engine Number Ten ($17.99, hardcover, 32pp) will be available at Graniterock and other local retail locations beginning February 14 and may also be purchased online through Amazon.com. For more information find enginenumberten.comonline or call Keith Severson at Graniterock at 831-768-2063.
