Graniterock Receives National Philanthropy Day Recognition
PEBBLE BEACH, CA—Graniterock was recognized as Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Development Executives Network for its outstanding efforts in advancing community involvement achievements by Graniterock Team Members. Graniterock matches Team Member contributions to non-profit organizations dollar-for-dollar, and also encourages the giving of time and leadership to community groups.
The 13th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon was held at the Inn at Spanish Bay at Pebble Beach on November 15, 2004. Bruce W. Woolpert, Graniterock President & CEO, accepted the award before a large audience that had gathered from Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. “This Award recognizes the special giving and caring that Graniterock Team Members provide to their communities—both the giving of time and financial support. Graniterock is pleased to be a partner with Graniterock Team Members in helping them to achieve their community improvement goals from helping improve classroom education to senior care,” said Woolpert.
Woolpert told the audience that Graniterock’s caring extends over 104 years since the Company’s founding. “After the 1906 Earthquake, Graniterock’s founder, Arthur R. Wilson, and Graniterock Team Members bought bread from Watsonville bakeries and took it to San Francisco by horse-drawn wagon to help San Franciscans who found their city mostly destroyed by earthquake and fire,” Woolpert said.
This year more than 700 Graniterock Team Members donated time and financial support to over 500 community organizations.
Graniterock was founded on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1900. The Company is headquartered in Watsonville, California, with branch offices in Aromas, Cupertino, Felton, Hollister, Oakland, Redwood City, Salinas, Santa Cruz, Seaside/Monterey, and Watsonville. The Company provides high quality construction building materials and is a civil engineering contractor. The Company holds contractor’s license number 22.
