Graniterock Wins Excellence Award
California Chip Seal Association Awards Local Company
Graniterock has been awarded the California Chip Seal Association “2002 Chip Seal Award of Excellence” for the City of San Jose 2002 Screenings Program. The award was presented at the Western Pavement Maintenance Annual Forum in the City of Industry last week. Accepting the award for Graniterock were Bill Damm, Research and Technical Services Department/Laboratory, and Don Barrett, Account Manager.
Graniterock’s chip seal aggregate is transported by rail from the A.R. Wilson Quarry in Aromas to Graniterock’s San Jose Distribution Center so that material is locally available on an “as needed” basis. The award was “For Work Performed To The Highest Standards Of The Industry.” The City of San Jose’s Project Manager, Lou Cancilla, said Graniterock’s new product, “City of San Jose ¼″ Screenings” allowed them to chip more lane miles with less rock per square yard and required less sweeping.
Graniterock has been headquartered in Watsonville, California, since it’s founding on February 14, 1900. Graniterock sells its aggregates at several Company locations; including South San Francisco, Redwood City, San Jose, Santa Clara, Salinas, Monterey, Watsonville, Felton and Santa Cruz. Graniterock supplies construction materials including ready-mix concrete, hot mix asphalt, building materials, landscaping supplies, rock, sand and gravel. Graniterock received the 1992 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the 1994 Governor’s Golden State Quality Award. The Company has been named one of the 100 Best Places to Work in America by Fortune magazine five consecutive years.
