Local Company Lab Receives AMRL Accreditation
Graniterock's South San Francisco Asphalt Plant Provides Quality Materials
After months of work, Thanh Ngo, Graniterock’s Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) specialist, was notified recently that the South San Francisco HMA lab has received AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) accreditation. With AMRL accreditation, materials tested in the SSF lab will be recognized by the FAA and San Francisco Airport as acceptable QC data for HMA supplied to FAA projects. The testing results generated in the lab will also be fully considered in a dispute situation. The SSF lab has been Cal Trans certified for many years. The addition of the AMRL accreditation expands the capabilities of the lab to provide valuable technical support that will be recognized by public agencies to a wider range of HMA projects.
The primary vision of the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) is to be the center for promoting quality and achievement of excellence in construction materials testing (CMT). This is achieved by providing services and tools through our three major programs: the Laboratory Assessment Program (LAP), the Proficiency Sample Program (PSP), and the AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP). Through these activities, AASHTO evaluates testing competency, promotes continual improvement, and instills confidence in the laboratories and specifiers that use our programs.
AMRL is part of the Engineering and Technical Services division of AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials), an international leader in setting technical standards for all phases of highway system development. AASHTO represents all fifty states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico and serves as a liaison between the state departments of transportation and the federal government. AASHTO is the voice for transportation and strives to educate the public and key decision makers about the critical role that transportation plays in securing a good quality of life and a sound economy for our nation.
Graniterock has been headquartered in Watsonville, California, since its founding in 1900.
