Michael Herges Becomes A Certified Safety Professional
National Safety Council Designates Local Businessman
Michael Herges, Safety and Health Services Manager for Graniterock of Watsonville, CA, has completed all the requirements for certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). The Board of Certified Safety Professionals awarded this highly respected certification to Mr. Herges after he completed two examinations of over 10 hours in length covering engineering and management of safety, applied sciences, legal and regulatory matters, professional affairs and ethics.
The Certified Safety Professionals specialize in protecting workers, the public, property and the environment by identifying, evaluating and controlling hazards. The CSP manages programs aimed at compliance with safety principles and federal, state and local laws and regulations. The CSP must be re-certified every five years to maintain the designation.
Mike has over 20 years experience in safety and training. He has been with Graniterock for over 3 years. Mr. Herges has a broad range of safety experience. Prior to working for Graniterock, Mike worked for coal mining and medical device manufacturing companies as a safety and health professional. Mike and his family live in Monterey County. He enjoys reading a good book, hiking, and a leisurely round of golf.

A Board of 13 Directors representing sponsoring organizations, the profession at large and the public governs BCSP. The six sponsoring organizations include the American Society of Safety Engineers, American Industrial Hygiene Association, National Safety Council, System Safety Society, Society of Fire Protection Engineers and Institute of Industrial Engineers. BCSP is chartered in Illinois as a non-profit certification organization and meets the national standards for certifying programs of the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and the Council of Engineering Specialty Boards.
