The Eagles Have Landed
Graniterock's Pavex Construction Division Delivers Airport Runway Early
Just in time for the rock band The Eagles to touch down, Graniterock’s Pavex Construction Division finished Runway 8-26 and Taxiway A at the Salinas Airport, delivering the job fully one month ahead of schedule. Pavex worked extra long and hard on the Salinas Airport Project and due to these efforts Runway 8-26 was re-opened more than a month early. Gary Whitmire played many roles on this project among them: Estimator, Project Superintendent and Project Manager. A big thanks goes out to Gary and the crews for their outstanding work. “Pavex, the City of Salinas and the Salinas Airport appreciate your hard work,” said Matt Crigger, Project Engineer, in thanking the hardworking cooperative efforts of several organizations.
The City of Salinas and the Salinas Municipal Airport ordered repairs to Runway 8-26 and Taxiway A to include the removal and replacement of failed asphaltic concrete areas, crack sealing, and the installation of a new slurry seal coat, fog seal coat, striping and marking to FAA Standards and all due the third week in September. The Pavex Construction crew worked so well the project was delivered for use one month early.
Pavex offered a special note of thanks to Steve A. Cox, Construction Inspector for the City of Salinas along with the Airport staff.
Graniterock was founded on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1900.
