Recycling Asphalt and Concrete
RECYCLING IS A BENEFIT TO THE ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS BUSINESS
Recycling has become an integral part of the construction industry during the 1980s. The advent of recycling concrete and asphalt into aggregate base materials has satisfied many needs. It has helped reduce ecological pressures on our community, while simultaneously offering us a viable and competitive source for “spec” aggregate base material.
Ecologically, our Redwood City/Peninsula and Capitol Expressway recycling operations are easing the tremendous burden on local dumpsites throughout the San Francisco Peninsula and South Bay area.
Plants like ours provide contractors with an alternative disposal area for their non-deleterious materials (concrete, asphalt and select fill). This, in turn, allows the public dumpsites to handle materials more suitable for their operation.
As a result, the imported material is monitored and crushed through a state-of-the-art crusher, screened off to a ¾ inch minus aggregate which meets State of California specifications for ¾ inch class 2 aggregate base. The aggregate produced is useful as a backfill material, sub-base material, road base and-in some cases-cement-treated base aggregate.
The general consensus of the contractors and agencies that have used the material has been, “An excellent product that is very workable, holds up to traffic well and helps us stay competitive and profitable.”
Graniterock has three recycling locations to serve the construction industry:
