Santa Cruz Concrete Sand
Concrete Sand is a non-pumpable sand produced at our Santa Cruz Sand Plant. It is surface mined at our Santa Cruz location on Highway 1. Once excavated, the sand is fed to a triple deck screen, with the last screen being 7⁄16″, and is then delivered to a water classification system. The sand passes through 10 stations where particles are separated by their specific gravity. The water classification system also strips away silt and clay which produces a very clean product.
Concrete sand leaves the water classification system and works its way through a screw conveyor to remove water prior to being dropped onto a stockpile. Finished product is then moved to a nearby site for easy truck access.
Concrete Sand is designed for non-pump concrete applications where concrete is delivered to the job site and tailgated or is used in pre-cast applications including masonry blocks, pipes, panels, fountains and statues. This sand may have a slightly higher water demand than some other sands.
