Before You Begin
All debris should be removed and pressure washing is required to ensure that your concrete is ready for treatment. Using a 15°-25° tip should do the trick. If applying stain to "slick" concrete (garage, shop floor) it MUST be profiled so the pores are open prior to application.
Step 1
Mixing the Product
Review the directions carefully regarding the mixing and preparation of the Newlook product. Make sure to follow their three “commandments”
- Mix the product Right
- Always agitate from the bottom with application
- Re-broom the product as it dries
Step 2
Application
Dip the applicator into the bottom of the bucket and mix in a circular motion. Do this EVERY time. Spread the stain onto the concrete. Do not apply additional pressure; simply allow the applicator to do the work for you. Use random stroke directions and work the product in until no pooling remains.
Step 3
Re-Broom
In order to maintain color uniformity you will want to brush the same area a few times while it dries. If it is necessary to walk on the damp surface to access remote areas, make sure to broom out your footprints.
Step 4
Repeat
A second coat is recommended for complete and uniform coverage. Repeat the previous steps for application and re-brooming, using longer strokes to even out the finish. You can test to see if the surface is ready for the second coat by gently scrubbing with a damp rag. If no color comes off on the rag then its ready for the next coat. A general rule is to wait about an hour between coats.
Step 5
Edges and Joints
Use a bristle brush to cut the edges and stain the joints. Make sure that you re-broom the edges with the large applicator when you are finished in order to maintain overall color consistency.
Step 6
Maintenance
Your Newlook color stain surfacing needs no special maintenance. It can be re-applied as needed to keep you concrete surfaces looking new.
