GRANITEROCK TEAM MEMBER RECIEVES PRESIDENT’S AWARD
CalCIMA Makes Special Presentation
The California Construction and Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) awarded Benjamin J. Licari, Director of Geology and Exploration for Graniterock, the 2011 President’s Award.
The President’s Award is presented to an individual who has exhibited outstanding dedication to the mission and goals of the Association. The recipient of this award must demonstrate a diligent commitment to the preservation of the construction materials, ready mixed concrete and mining industry, and the success of the Association.“Licari was recognized for his tremendous support of the industry through his service on the State Mining and Geology Board and his dedication in advancing the industry through his participation within the organization. Ben was one of the leading figures in the formation of CalCIMA as the "VOICE" of the construction materials industry in California and as such is most deserving of recognition as the first recipient of its President’s Award, which is now the highest honor that is bestowed to a member by CalCIMA,” said Gary Hambly, the President and CEO of the organization. “Ben has always been there when we have needed him, and this award reflects both his personal dedication to the industry and that of Graniterock.”
Ben Licari has a BS in Geology, University of California at Davis, Hazardous Material Management Certificate, University of California at Santa Cruz Green Building & Sustainable Design Certificate, University of California at Davis.
Ben is a California Registered Geologist and LEED® Accredited Professional. He touts 30 years of experience in mining operations in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Montana; working as a mine geologist, ore control engineer, mine superintendent, and mine manager. In 1998, appointed by Governor Pete Wilson to the California State Mining & Geology Board as a Registered Geologist with special expertise in mining, groundwater hydrology, water quality and rock chemistry. He was reappointed to the Board in 2009 by Governor Schwarzenegger as a expert in mineral resource conservation and development. Ben joined Graniterock in early 2000. His hobbies include SCUBA diving and underwater photography.
CalCIMA is the principal representative and advocate for the construction and industrial materials industry in the state of California. It represents 100 producer member companies that include more than 500 production sites.
Graniterock was founded on Valentine's Day, 1900, when its first operation, the A. R. Wilson Quarry, was opened in Aromas, and soon became a heavy engineering contractor. Its California Contractor's License -#22- demonstrates how long the Company has been in business. Graniterock has recently opened a new Branch location in Cupertino on South De Anza Boulevard supplying construction building and landscaping materials. There are already plant or branch locations in Aromas, Felton, Hollister, Monterey Peninsula, Oakland, Redwood City, Salinas, Santa Cruz, San Jose, and So. San Francisco. Graniterock's Pavex Construction Division operates from area offices in Redwood City, San Jose, Oakland, and Watsonville, and performs large work such as highway or runway expansion projects, as well as commercial and residential projects. The Company's Corporate Offices have been located in Watsonville since 1900.
