Pushing tight deadline at Moffett Field

MOUNTAIN VIEW - Working nights, weekends and in the rain, the Construction Division has had a hand in transitioning Moffett Federal Airfield into a hub for Google, which entered a 60-year lease for the former military site in 2014.

Graniterock began working as a subcontractor for Turner Construction in March to re-pave the frontage road and a giant parking area for Google buses.

The project, won by Estimators Paul Cianciarulo and John Torres, includes pouring a concrete apron with material batched from Redwood City, improving ADA access points, widening the road used by Google buses to enter the parking lot next to the iconic hangars and upgrading the Ellis Gate checkpoint.

The 250,000-square-foot bus parking lot was resurfaced by the partial depth recycling team in two days, which PDR Manager Dennis McElroy said was due to strong focus by the team.

“The whole team pulled together on this to work in the rain and finish in one weekend,” Dennis said. “They each worked 26 hours that weekend.”

The job called for 3,200 tons of asphalt from the Redwood City plant.

“Olon and his guys have met and exceeded the client’s expectations at every turn,” Project Manager Kyle McLean said. “The value engineering has helped make this a great project for Graniterock and Turner.”
